Lashing out at the Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for deliberately disrupting communal harmony in Gujarat, General Secretary of Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) Sitaram Yechury claimed that the aforementioned parties are indulging in the 'worst form of vote bank politics'.
Speaking to ANI here on Friday, the CPI(M) leader claimed that the cow slaughter issue in Gujarat is being used as a catalyst to gather votes on the grounds of Hindutva, prior to the upcoming elections in the state.
"There is already existing legislation on illegality of cow slaughter. Those found guilty can even be imprisoned. There is no need for this matter to be raised again. The BJP and RSS are trying to sharpen communal polarisation in order to reap electoral benefits," he said.
With regards to BJP leader Subramanian Swamy's involvement in the Ayodhya dispute, Yechury stressed on the fact that the former must wait for the Supreme Court's decision before taking any further action, as he is not directly involved in the matter.
"The Chief Justice has indicated that the matter of land deed of Babri Masjid will be solved at the earliest. Swamy must wait for the decision to be taken by the apex court before he has anything further to say regarding the matter," said Yechury.
