BJP says AAP hosting 'Janata Darbars' to take political mileage

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday took a dig at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, saying his 'Janata Darbars' was aimed at gaining political mileage and not addressing grievances of people.

BJP leader Vijay Goel said that Kejriwal had announced a slew of populist measures, keeping in mind the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

"They are announcing populist measures, keeping in mind the general elections. It seems that the objective is not to address grievances of people of Delhi but to take political mileage. Now, they are preparing for upcoming elections. As a result, they have given up on two big issues-corruption and price rise," said Goel.

Chaos marred the public meet as thousands of residents of Delhi turned up with their problems and applications, hoping for a solution, at Delhi Secretariat, which is the office of Kejriwal.

Braving cold weather conditions, hopeful residents swarmed the venue. However, the crowd went out of control and Kejriwal had to leave the venue, fearing stampede.

Meanwhile, the Congress Party also accused Kejriwal of taking hasty decisions.

"They should have thought through and assessed it before starting the meet. They should have studied its practicalities, what is possible and what is not. Otherwise, these problems would crop up," said Congress spokesperson Meem Afzal.

Kejriwal had also announced that his entire cabinet will sit outside their offices at the Delhi Secretariat every week and hear grievances from people and try to solve them.

Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), common man party, is widening its grip across the country with its ambition to contest general elections from maximum number of states and in as many seats as possible.
