Congress leader PL Punia on Tuesday said it was extremely shameful for a responsible party like the BJP to make irresponsible statements and backtrack from the 'achhe din' promise made to the nation during the Lok Sabha polls last year.

Punia said the leaders of BJP and NDA have been making such unwarranted statements in recent times.

"The BJP president had also said that their promise of Rs 15 lakh in every person's bank account was an election 'jumla'....They have turned back on every promise they had made, including those made to the farmers," Punia told ANI.

"It is very shameful, they are a responsible party and a ruling party, they are making such irresponsible statements. They should explain why 'achhe din' haven't come," he added.

Union Minister for Steel and Mines Narendra Singh Tomar had yesterday said the BJP had never said "achhe din ayenge".

Talking to the media in Indore, Tomar said the slogan was coined by the people on social media during the Lok Sabha elections last year.
