BJP suffers setback in Delhi polls, says 'will accept mandate'

With the latest trends suggesting a splendid win for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi Assembly polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday said that it would accept the public mandate and prepare to sit in the opposition.

Praveen Shankar Kapoor, the convener of BJP's media cell, said the trends can't be reversed.

"We will have to accept the mandate and prepare ourselves to sit in opposition now," said Kapoor.

"There is no reason to explain," he added.

As per the latest reports, the AAP is inching closer to government formation in Delhi with the party leading in 59 seats. The BJP is ahead in 10 seats while the Congress is trailing in all the 70 assembly seats.

The Election Commission has made elaborate arrangements for the counting of votes. Counting is taking place at 14 centres in nine districts of the national capital.

A three-tier security has been put in place at all the 14 counting centres.

A voter turnout of 67.08 percent was recorded in the polling for the 70-member Delhi Assembly. A total of 673 candidates are in the fray this time.
