Border road between Assam and Nagaland to benefit villagers

The construction of a border road between Assam and Nagaland in the Titabor sub-division of Jorhat District is aimed at benefitting villagers.

The construction of a 23-km-long road from Gauri Chauwa under the Titabor sub-division to New Sonowal by the state public works department is in full swing.

There are 17 villages within this stretch, mainly engaged in agriculture.

Earlier, the villagers used to face many problems in transporting goods and availing services.

The construction of the road as well as seven new bridges has come as a ray of hope for the people who are expecting their lives to improve now.

The project has been allotted a budget of Rs. 20 crores.

Rupjyoti Kurmi, the MLA representing Mariani Constituency, said:"I would like to request the central and state governments to give more funds for the border areas. It will be good for the government also and for the people also."

Reshmi Gogoi, a shopkeeper, said: "If a proper road is there, we will be benefited a lot. I can run the shop in a better manner, as I will get more customers. My nine member family relies on my business. So, it will be good."

The construction of the road has given hope of better business to this group of students from Kherimiya village who started vegetable farming recently.

These youngsters, who are from poor families, have taken up farming to support their education and to supplement their family income.

Niteyen Nath Gogoi, a student, said: "The construction of this road on the Nagaland border will benefit us a lot. Earlier, we used to face many problems due to lack of any means of transportation, as vehicles couldn't come here. This road will help all those who are engaged in farming. People can easily travel, transportation will be easy."

Infrastructure development is necessary to facilitate growth and economic prosperity in any region.

The government has been laying considerable emphasis on infrastructure projects in the Northeast so as to improve the living condition of the people.
