Border suggests Clarke should miss 2015 World Cup

Former Australian captain Allan Border has suggested that captain Michael Clarke should miss the 2015 World Cup and tipped leg-spinner James Muirhead to be a surprise selection for the premier one-day tournament.

With a year until the 2015 edition of cricket's biggest tournament gets underway in Australia and New Zealand, Border has selected the 11 players he believes can lead the Australians to World Cup glory.

According to News.com.au, Border, who led the nation to World Cup success in 1987, believes that limited-overs cricket could be an unnecessary burden for Clarke and said that the 20-year-old Muirhead could be a genuine matchwinner for the tournament next February.

Border asserted that Clarke could be better off just focusing on Test cricket and even though he named the captain in his ODI side, he believes Clarke is not the 'must-have' selection he was once in the ODI arena.

Border urged selectors to play Muirhead in some more one-day cricket going forward to check his performance, and even compared the impact Muirhead can have on a 50-over game to that which the spin great Shane Warne did during his heydays, saying that Muirhead's wicket taking ability is like 'gold' in middle overs in ODI cricket.
