Having fallen out of contention for a regular starting place in the ODI squad, England fast bowler Stuart Broad has admitted that he is 'desperate' to represent his country in the 2019 World Cup on home soil.

"I'm desperate, as I think every England cricketer would be, to play at the 2019 World Cup in England. It is a long way away but it will creep up," Broad was quoted as saying by Sport24.

The 30-year-old, who surged to the top of the Test bowlers rankings earlier this year, was a part of the England side that made a disappointing group stage exit at the 2015 World Cup.

Broad, however, barely featured in 50-over cricket since then, making just two appearances for England. He played his last ODI match against South Africa in February this year.

Defending his absence in the ODI squad, the towering paceman pointed out that he devotes most of his cricketing time in the longest format of the game and, therefore, finds it difficult to keep up the standard of the white-ball cricket, which is moving forward quickly.

With the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) are all set to host the 2017 Champions Trophy and the World Cup two years later, Broad said that he was fully determined to do everything possible to fight his way back into the squad.

"I'm trying to find more time to play white-ball cricket.I've got a bit of a proven track record with the white ball, my stats are pretty good in the 50-over stuff, I just need to play a bit more of it," Broad added.
