Stuart Broad got a five-wicket haul as Australia finished Day 1 of the first Ashes Test in Brisbane at 273/8 with the help of a late recovery from Mitchell Johnson (64) and Brad Haddin (78 not out).
At one point, Australia was placed at 100/5 after cruising initially at 71/1, when Stuart Broad ripped through the top order.
David Warner was steadfast in his knock of 49 runs off 82 balls but he too, like the others, fell to Broad when he was in his prime.
Meanwhile, James Anderson got two wickets in his 22 overs while Chris Tremlett got the sole remaining wicket.
