The Broadband India Forum (BIF) on Wednesday welcomed the recently released recommendations by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Net Neutrality, emphasizing that the organization supports open internet.
Reaffirming its support to Net Neutrality, BIF said that it supports the recommendation that there should be no blocking, throttling and discrimination of any content available on the Public Internet.
The organization also agreed to TRAI's recommendation of formation of an industry led multi-stakeholder body for enforcement and monitoring work in a collaborative framework.
"We laud the Authority for upholding the freedom of the Internet and clearly enunciating all the concerned principles of Net Neutrality. The Recommendations are strongly in favour of consumers and in the overall interest of the general public. They constitute a very good foundation for Digital India," said president Broadband India Forum, TV Ramachandran.
Earlier, while submitting its response to the TRAI consultation paper on Net Neutrality, BIF had written that Net Neutrality principles should ensure that there is no interference with the customer's ability to access lawful online content, applications, and services of their choice.
TRAI had on Tuesday released recommendations on Net Neutrality after a long multistage consultation process of a year and a half stressing on the fact that there should be no discrimination in the Internet based access on the basis of content being used, protocols being used or the user equipment being deployed.
