More than 300 young swimmers from across Assam gathered in Jorhat recently to show their ability to compete in national level competitions.
The inter district swimming competition was organized by the Jorhat Swimming Society under the aegis of the All Assam Swimming Association (AASA).
The two-day competition clearly reflected their zeal and enthusiasm for the sport.
"This time, we are very glad their performance is far better than previous year. We are going to break the national record in June, and for that we are preparing very hard, and definitely, they will bring laurels for the state," said Samiran Bordoloi, President, Jorhat Swimming and Aquatic Society.
National Swimming Coach C. Dey said, "Our main target is to break the national record. If we break the national record then we will get a chance to represent India at the Asian Games. So, the preparations are going on."
For the fourth consecutive year, Jorhat has hosted the competition at its International Standard Pool built in 2010.
Altogether, twelve swimmers have been selected to represent Assam in the upcoming National Swimming Championship to be held indoors from June 26.
"The competition is very tough. I am playing in 200m and 100m freestyle category. I have set a record in 50 meter freestyle category," said Vastav, a participant.
Such occasions provide the talented sportspersons from the northeast an opportunity to prove their ability and perform at the national and international events.
