Former Delhi Commission for Women chief Barkha Shukla Singh on Monday condemned the gang rape of a women and her daughter in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr district and held Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav-led government responsible for the unfortunate incident.

Seeking immediate action on the case, Singh urged the UP Government to nab the accused and prosecute them accordingly.

"The road where the incident took place is a very famous and busy road. So in this case the administration and the government of the state should be held responsible. As in such roads, barricades, police depots should be there to ensure safety and if they are not there then the government is simply responsible for the false that has happened." said Singh.

"It is very unfortunate that such incidents take place and the atmosphere is such that people cannot travel safely. The culprits should be nabbed and should be prosecuted and the state government should make all efforts to ensure safety of its people," she added.

Meanwhile, at least 15 suspects have been detained in connection with the brutal gang-rape incident of a woman and her daughter.

Vaibhav Krishna, Senior Superintendent of Police, Bulandshahr, confirmed this to ANI.

The incident took place on Friday night when a 35-year-old woman and her 14-year-old daughter were allegedly gang-raped by a group of robbers in Bulandshahr district.

The victims were on their way from Noida to Shahjahanpur with the other family members when their vehicle was stopped near a cycle repairing shop in Dostpur village on NH-9, which connects Noida and Bulandshahr.

According to one of the relatives of the victims, a group of six to eight men dragged the mother-daughter duo from the vehicle and took them to the nearby field and allegedly raped them.

The culprits also snatched money and jewellery from the possession of the victims and fled the scene of crime.
