Capital witnesses launch of contemporary folk album 'Rangley Punjabis'

Fusion of Punjabi folk songs with a contemporary twist is a treat for the ears and that's what happened when Peninsula decided to come up with a new album in collaboration with Studios Universal Music Group titled 'Rangley Punjabis'.

The occasion was the launch of a new album in New Delhi that brought singers namely The Sajda Sisters, Balwinder Singh Mast from Naushera, Rajia Sultan, Maninder Singh, Ranjhan Ali Qawwal and Afshana together to set a mesmerizing performance for the audience.

Speaking at the event about the future plans of fusion music, Subroto Chattopadhyay, chairman and co-founder of Peninsula Studios told ANI that first and foremost the songs which these upcoming artists sang were loved by everyone and this genre of music was very important to them.

"We brought these artists, mentored them and we expect to get more shows, more recordings and our main motive is to spread this kind of music in the entire country. We would love to see these great artists going places and making a mark in the music industry.

The album 'Rangley Punjabis' is helmed by Kolkata singer-songwriter and producer Neel Adhikari who recorded with folk artists to come up with contemporized folk music mix that stays true to its roots.

The launch of the album saw artist putting their best foot forward as all the singers featuring in the album crooned their best song. Balwinder Singh Mast from Naushera sang his high pitch track 'Challa', The Sajda Sisters made sure everyone danced to the tune of 'Latthe di Chadar' and 'Qadri Jugni' by Ranjhan Ali Qawwal was definitely the favorite of the evening.

Adhikari came up with branded property called Nokia Music Theatre in 2010 along with Universal Music Group to shed light on music that appeals to the masses.

Adhikari had also worked together for Peninsula Studios earlier production 'Mast Qalandars' that was released in 2013 and featured Rajasthani artists such as singer Kutle Khan.
