Former Punjab chief minister and Congress candidate from Amritsar Captain Amarinder Singh on Tuesday lashed out at senior BJP leader Arun Jaitely for his comments on Congress President Sonia Gandhi's daughter Priyanka Gandhi, whom Jaitley accused of being arrogant.

He said Jaitley should better self introspect his own attitude that smacks of high headedness and sheer arrogance than passing judgment on others.

Reacting sharply to Jaitley's criticism of Priyanka, Singh said he had known both Rahul and Priyanka since their childhood, and both of them are known for their friendliness and highly affable manners.

Moreover, he added that Priyanka had exhibited her affable and friendly manners umpteen times as the way she mingles and mixes up with common people even with the workers of opposition parties like the AAP and the BJP, who throng her public meetings.

Singh said Jaitley should introspect and recall when he himself did last shake hands with a common party worker who included his own supporters.

"I can recall as recently as during the Amritsar elections people telling me that he (Mr Jaitley) would either not at all produce out his hand for a shake with common workers or would do that quite reluctantly", Capt Amarinder said, while remarking, "it sounds like pot calling kettle black."

"It is so characteristic of Jaitley that even in Amritsar he would brag about challenging me to debate on national issues only to retreat the same time and talk about drugs and drinking water in Amritsar at the end of the day", he remarked, while adding, "he will lose from Amritsar because of his arrogance and egoistic attitude as he is yet to learn to treat party colleagues as equals and not as subordinates."

The Congress leader said the BJP was getting desperate and was resorting to all types of dirty means in attacking the Congress leadership.

"They actually do not have anything against Priyanka who has outclassed them in Amethi and now they are trying to resort to the cheap methods of personal attacks. Jaitley should better come out with something substantial than resort to baseless allegations which nobody is going to accept," he added.
