The Central Bureau of Investigation on Monday registered a case against Rotomac Global Pvt. Ltd, its Directors Vikram Kothari, Sadhana Kothari and Rahul Kothari and unknown bank officials on a complaint from Bank of Baroda.
The complaint alleged the conspirators in the latest case have cheated a consortium of seven banks, by siphoning off bank loans to the tune of Rs 2,919 crore (principal amount).
According to the CBI, this amount does not include the interest liabilities of these loans.
The Rotomac case has been a sensation after the PNB scam rattled the nation. Famous jewelerry designer Nirav Modi and his family member Mehul Choksi, the owner of Gitanjali Gems, cheated the Punjab National Bank of Rs 11,400 crore and Rs 280 crore respectively.
According to a CBI official, total outstanding amount along with interest liabilities for Rotomac is Rs 3,695 crore.
The CBI is conducting searches at three places in Kanpur and questioning all the three accused -- Vikram Kothari, Sadhana Kothari, and Rahul Kothari. Their residential premises and an office have also been sealed in New Delhi.
Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, Bank of Maharashtra, Indian Overseas Bank, Union Bank of India, Allahabad Bank and Oriental Bank of Commerce are involved in the Rotomac case.
