Centre has demanded an independent probe into the attack on journalists in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district.
In a tweet last night, Information and Broadcasting Minister Arun Jaitley said, "attack on journalists in Uttar Pradesh is condemnable and an independent probe into the incident should be carried out."
Two journalists of a news channel were allegedly attacked by Samajwadi Party leader and MLA Nahid Hasan and his aides.
They had gone to cover the incident in which an eight-year-old boy was killed in celebratory firing by party workers in Shamli district on Sunday.
The party workers were celebrating the victory of party candidate Nafisa in the local body polls from the town.
The UP unit of BJP has alleged that the attack on media persons was a planned assault.
