The Government of India has taken several initiatives for better administrative reforms and is working towards reform, perform and transform, said C. Viswanath, Secretary, Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) after inaugurating a two-day regional conference on the theme 'Path Breaking and High Impact Initiatives in Citizen Centric Services Delivery System' in Guwahati on Thursday.
Viswanath further expressed the view that the "government is not something separate or very different. People make the government. Our common notion is that Government is routine, repetitive and hierarchical, where there is no accountability, no transparency and also where procedures are more important than outcome. But our Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, now appeals for the government to reform, perform and transform."
He also emphasized that recently more than 1000 archaic laws have been reformed which will be definitely one step towards reducing corruption.
Pawan Kumar Borthakur, Principal Secretary, Administrative Reforms and Training Department, Government of Assam, explained the importance and outer review of the two day conference in his introductory speech. He also informed that panellists will enlighten on digital intervention, corruption free governance and rural area connectivity issues.
T.Y. Das, Additional Chief Sectary, Government of Assam, spoke on good governance and urged to make the government more accountable, transparent and citizen centric to meet the public expectation.
Delegates from 8 states of North Eastern Region and four states of Eastern Region i.e. West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha and Jharkhand and senior officers of DARPG are participating in the conference.
The conference aims to create a common platform to share experiences in the formulation and implementation of citizen centric governance, improved public service delivery through e-Governance, transparent, accountable and citizen friendly effective administration.
Smita Kumar, Joint Secretary, Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances, Alpana Shukla Rao, Director, DARPG, Anjan Chakravarty, Director, Assam Administrative Staff College and senior officers were present on the occasion.
The conference is being organised by the DARPG and the Government of Assam.
