A 'chaiwala' like Narendra Modi could become the Prime Minister of India because Congress preserved democracy, said the party's Maharashtra in charge, Mallikarjun Kharge.
While addressing the party workers meet in Mumbai, Kharge also listed out various schemes of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government and alleged that it had failed to perform on all fronts.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been asking, at every function, about what the Congress has done for the country in the past 70 years. A chaiwala like him could become Prime Minister because we preserved democracy," he said here.
"Prime Minister Modi speaks about Emergency that happened 43 years back, but what about the undeclared Emergency in last 4 years? Farmers are committing suicide, agricultural schemes are failing, farmers aren't getting new loans and trade is on slow track," Kharge claimed.
Further hitting out at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the senior Congress leader claimed that 'Acche din' will come once the Modi-led government is dethroned.
"The government's expenditure on advertising is unstoppable. 'Acche din' will come into the lives of people once the Modi government is dethroned." Kharge said.
"There have been consistent attacks on the character of Indira Gandhi, Rajiv and Sonia Gandhi. It is a deliberate attack by the BJP. The Congress is a family and we all are its members," he added.
