The Chinese Government is reportedly of the view that the strong political will exhibited by both President Xi Jingping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi could provide the best possible chance for both countries to resolve their long-pending border dispute.
Interacting with media here, Huang Xilian, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs in the Chinese foreign ministry, said China is eagerly awaiting the visit of Prime Minister Modi and has very high expectations in terms of outcomes from that trip.
China, he further stated, has always wanted to maintain "peace and tranquillity" at the border with India, and said with a strong leadership on both sides, a positive movement could be made to solve the contentious border dispute.
"As long as the two leaders have strong political will, there is a good chance to reach a solution and settle the contentious issue," Xilian was quoted by media, as saying.
