Union Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan on Saturday said that he has instructed his ministry officials to develop more cost effective and efficient electrical lamps and other solar devices for the benefit of people.
Speaking at a "Science Express" event at the Safdarjung Railway Station here, Dr. Harsh Vardhan said the problem of climate change can be tackled by adopting alternative sources energy, and added that science should play an active role for the purpose.
He also said that people should be made aware of importance for conserving and adopting alternative sources of energy.
He said the train is one of the measures for popularising science, which is most crucial for improving living standards. Senior officials of the ministry accompanied him as witnessed the entire exhibition on the train.
The Science Express is an innovative science exhibition mounted on a 16 coach AC train. It is now being redesigned on the theme 'Climate Change'. It will travel across India, halting at 64 locations spread over 20 states, covering about 18,000 kilometers.
The exhibition will convey a strong message on climate change and will also be a good opportunity to generate dialogue and discussion.

Leaders of 190 nations will gather in Paris in December to discuss a new global agreement on climate change during 21st session of Conference of the Parties (COP 21) to the 1992 United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the 11th session of the Meeting of the Parties (CMP 11) to the 1997 Kyoto Protocol.
