CNG to be cheaper at odd hours in NCR: Dharmendra Pradhan

Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday said Natural Gas Compressors (CNG) would be available at cheaper price during odd hours in the National Capital Region (NCR).

The decision could be seen as an effort by the Central Government to encourage the use of CNG to contain the air pollution level in the national capital, which has reached the alarming level.

"Though the Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has capacity to supply 68 lakh kg per day in NCR, it is able to supply only 22 lakh kg per day due to low pressure that results in long queue of vehicles outside filling stations, and as a result office going customers avoid getting their CNG re-filled," he said.

"Thus, we have suggested the IGL to give some incentive to customers so as to encourage them to come for filling at odd hours, when they are returning from their offices," he said.

He further said as many as 58 lakh people have given up their LPG subsidy, following a call given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Meanwhile, in an effort to check the alarming pollution level in the city, the Delhi Government is implementing the odd-even scheme on a trial basis between January 1 and 15.
