A new study has suggested that college graduates are more active on weekends and less active on weekdays as compared to those who are less educated.

The study conducted at University of Kansas (KU) showed that on average, people with a college degree were more active on Saturdays and Sundays than on a typical weekday whereas for people without a high school degree was opposite.

Jarron M. Saint Onge, a KU assistant professor of sociology and the study's lead author, said that educational attainment predicted the physical activity differently on weekends and weekdays.

The researchers measured how many steps U.S. adults took per day and the intensity of those steps.

Co-author Kyle Chapman asserted that education affected people both at the individual level and at their social level and physical activity was encouraged or discouraged in different groups.

According to Chapman, the study's findings could be useful in developing targeted public health initiatives related to physical activity based on a person's educational attainment.
