The Government on Tuesday said the number of communal incidents since 2013 has substantially come down in the country.
Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju, who was replying to supplementaries in the Lok Sabha, said detailed reports are taken from the state governments for all major and important events so that suitable advisories could be shared.
Asserting that the responsibility of maintaining law and order rests with the state governments, Rijiju, however, said the Centre assists the states.
He said the advisories issued by the Union Home Ministry have a positive impact in immediate sensitization of the state governments.
The Minister of State for Home also informed that the governments provide compensation for communal riot victims.
