Communist D. Raja feels Modi's decision to invite Rajapaksha not correct

Communist Party of India (CPI) leader D Raja on Sunday said that Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi's decision to invite Sri Lankan President Mahindra Rajapaksha to his oath ceremony is not right, looking at the current situation.

"As far as invitation given to Mr. Rajapaksa is concerned, they have advised Mr. Modi to reconsider his decision. Looking at the situation on northern province of Sri Lanka the decision may not be right," said Raja.

"Considering the situations, we do not approve the decision of Mr. Modi to invite Sri Lankan president. Pakistan is a separate issue, but the way genocide took place in Sri Lanka is unacceptable and demands investigation," he said.

"The previous governments have committed a number of mistakes. We will have to wait and see what policies the new government forms," he added.

India has invited leaders of all South Asian countries to Modi's oath-taking ceremony scheduled for May 26.

The swearing-in ceremony, to be held at the forecourt of the historic Rashtrapati Bhavan, is likely to be attended by as many as 3,000 guests.
