The Congress on Sunday called for a probe by the Chief Bureau of Investigation (CBI) over the mysterious deaths of the accused and witnesses related to the Vyapam Scam.
"We feel that the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister is merely using it as a tool to divert attention from fair investigation and quieten the truth. We believe in order for the truth to come out, a probe monitored by the CBI is the only answer. The only aim that Congress has is that truth should come out and justice should prevail," Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewaala.
"Dr. Arun Sharma, Dean of NS medical college Jabalpur, became the 45th victim of Vyapam scam of MP. His predecessor Dean was also found dead in similar suspicious circumstances. The SIT-STF combination has not been able to unearth all layers of the Vyapam scam," he added.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had earlier said that he was writing a letter to the SIT to probe into the journalist's death.
Talking to the media in Bhopal, Chouhan said the state government has full sympathy with the family of deceased scribe.
On Saturday, Akshay Singh, a journalist working for a leading Delhi-based news channel, suddenly took ill and died after having interviewed parents of a girl who had been found dead near railway tracks, after her name figured in the Vyapam scam.
The incident took place in Meghnagar near Jhabua town.
The journalist was rushed to the civil hospital and later to a private hospital, but doctors failed to revive him. From there he was taken to another hospital in nearby Dahod in Gujarat, where he was declared brought dead.
