The Deputy Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and former Commerce Minister Anand Sharma and Congress Party leader Manish Tewari said on Tuesday that the government needs to come out with a proper solution to the issue of CSAT.

Anand Sharma said, "We are in favor of common agreement. The government has given a statement yesterday, of which all parties are not satisfied. A discussion must take place between the two, so that the candidates of CSAT are satisfied. The solution of this kind of sophisticated problem needs proper solution."

Expressing his dismay over the government's decision, Manish Tewari told ANI, "If this is the decision that the government wanted to arrive at, this could have been done two months earlier. Why subject students to operation, repression, atrocities, lathi charges, water cannons, compel them to sit on hunger strike and then come out with a solution that is acceptable to no one.

"And, it seems that the government has not thought of implications of it, because there are already voices of discord which have started emanating from different parts of the country."

"Therefore, under those circumstances it becomes extremely imperative that the government starts looking within because what has become evident from this decision is that the green shoots of policy paralyses have already started springing up very strongly within this government itself."

Earlier, in a bid to resolve the CSAT row, the government took a decision that the marks of English section will not be included for merit. This decision did not appease the protesting students completely as they want the CSAT to be scrapped entirely.
