The Congress Party on Sunday alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is suffering from a shortage of funds due to the wrongdoings of its party members like AAP MLA Somnath Bharti and former law minister Jitender Singh Tomar.

"We don't comment on internal matters of funding of political parties. However, the popularity of the Aam Aadmi Party has clearly suffered when you have members like Bharti, who the Delhi police have said that his activities are akin to criminal activities of that breed," Congress leader Tom Vadakkan told ANI.

"Then, you had the law minister, his encounter with fake certificates. Then there are other charge sheeted people. Naturally, these kinds of activities of the Aam Aadmi Party are visible. People of India are not sitting ducks to donate to parties like this," he added.

The Congress leader further said that it is a sad day for a party which came out with promises, but the delivery has been zero.

The party is facing a severe shortage of funds and is expected to launch a major fund raising campaign in the coming days.

In a national executive meeting that was convened on Thursday, it was decided that senior party functionary Kumar Vishwas will lead the campaign.
