The Congress Party on Wednesday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of working like a 'dictator' and alleged that the BJP-led NDA Government which came to power on big promises has miserably failed in fulfilling the same.
"Prime Minister Modi came to power on big promises. He sold a dream to people and today after 20 months, not only are his policies failing, he is working like a dictator," Congress leader Anand Sharma told the media here.
"This government is trapped in their own promises, big promises which have now turned out to be empty one," he added.
Sharma, who is the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, further slammed the government for weakening the welfare schemes built by the previous UPA regime.
"The present Modi Government has made major cuts in education, health and women welfare in the budget. The farming sector was earlier depressed and now this government has failed it," he added.
Sharma also alleged that there has been no tangible change from Prime Minister Modi's diplomatic efforts.
The Congress leader further said that there is a great agriculture distress in the country and the government has not initiated any effective step in this regard.
"Government normally imports 40 lakh tonnes of pulses. This year, when there was shortage, government imported only 20 lakh tonnes," he added.
"The question which arises here; when the government needed to import 50 lakh tonnes, why didn't they import the much quantity?" asked Sharma.
Launching a tirade against the ruling dispensation, Sharma said that the government was clueless on how to revive the economy.
"On economic front, the government numbers are far removed from reality, there is gross mismanagement. We are doing badly in every sector," he said.
"If you go by old method of GDP calculation, the growth is only 5.2 percent," he added.
