Communist Party of India (CPI) leader D. Raja on Friday sought an explanation from the Narendra Modi government to spell out the logic behind appointing Nripendra Mishra as its principal secretary when the government brings a legislation to replace the ordinance.
It also sought an assurance from the Modi Government that Mishra's appointment won't have any spillover effect elsewhere.
"An ordinance needs to be replaced by legislation. So the government is bound to bring legislation in order to replace the ordinance, but the government will have to explain the logic behind this, because it will have implications on TRAI. It won't stop with TRAI also and it can apply to other sectors also. So, whether the government has thought of everything or not let us see what is the explanation the government is going to give at the floor of the house," Raja told ANI.
The BJP government after assuming office had zeroed in on Nripendra Mishra appointing him as Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Principal Secretary after President Pranab Mukherjee signed an ordinance that amended Section 5 (8) of the TRAI Act of 1997 that barred any member of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) from holding a subsequent government position.
Mishra, a 1967 batch Indian Administrative Service officer from Uttar Pradesh cadre, has served in many departments, including TRAI as its Chairman in 2006.
