Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Sunday bashed the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) reign in the capital region which ended in 1998, saying that former Chief Minister Sushma Swaraj's government misguided the people with false promises.
"Till 1998,when Delhi was ruled by the BJP government, what was the state of Delhi? There was no electricity for upto 10 hours, water was scarce in an unimaginable way, they shuffled the Chief Minister three times. The third Chief Minister didn't even understand Delhi, we don't know where and how she came about. The Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party played with the people of Delhi. They misguided you the way they still are doing today," Dikshit said addressing a rally here today.
With the Lok Sabha elections in 2014, Dikshit urged the gathering to keep their loyalties with the Congress, who have "changed the face of Delhi in the last 14.5 years."
"Believe in what you can see and what you can feel through your intuitions, not in the false promises made to you," Dikhit added.
Especially pointing to the transport infrastructure development in her tenure, Dikshit said that the Congress is constantly committed in bridging the rural regions closer to the city of New Delhi.
She also promised that by December this year, 50,000 homes to those without shelter would be in place. Additionally, she announced that these homes would be handed out free of cost to people belonging to the Scheduled Class (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST), and for a minimal fee-payable over time-to others.
Dikshit has been the Chief Minister of Delhi since 1998. She succeeded present Leader of Opposition and BJP leader Sushma Swaraj.
From 1993 to 1998, the then-ruling BJP had changed Delhi's Chief Minister three times-Madan Lal Khurana (1993-1996), Sahib Singh Verma (1996-1998) and Sushma Swaraj (1998).
