David Lynch will no longer be directing the revival of cult 1990s television show 'Twin Peaks,' that was due for a TV comeback in 2016.

The 69-year-old film director took to Twiiter to break the news, writing that that show's 3rd season will have to continue without him as he didn't think the money offered to produce was enough for the show to be "the way it needed to be done," CNN reported.

He added that he had personally notified the actors to let them know of his decision.

Showtime Network released a statement saying "We were saddened to read David Lynch's statement today since we believed we were working towards solutions with David and his reps on the few remaining deal points."

They added that would "continue to hold out hope that we can bring it back in all its glory with both of its extraordinary creators, Lynch and Mark Frost, at its helm."

The groundbreaking series , which is believed to be one of the most influential shows in TV history, featured quirky FBI agent Dale Cooper who went to the Pacific Northwest town of Twin Peaks to investigate the mysterious murder of a high school girl named Laura Palmer.
