A deadly bombing inside a mosque in Jalalabad, the capital of Afghanistan's eastern Nangarhar province, was foiled by Afghan security forces.

Khamma Press quoted the provincial government media office, as saying in a statement that security forces discovered two mortar rounds placed inside the mosque which is located in the 3rd police district of the city.

The mortar rounds were discovered and defused without any incident by the operatives of the Afghan intelligence, it was further stated.

Had the defusion not taken place, the mortar rounds could have caused massive casualties among prayer participants.

No one has claimed responsibility for the incident so far.
