Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh on Wednesday said the decision to go ahead with the formation of a new state of Telangana was tough and it had been has been made keeping in mind a long standing demand of the people of the region.

"It was a tough decision and it is impossible to satisfy everyone. The demand for Telangana has been going on for a very long time and the party has taken a decision and everyone should agree to this decision," he told media here today.

Singh said all problems of Seemandhra would be kept in mind and asserted that the government will lend full support to the new state.

"The portion of Rayalseema and Coastal Andhra which is left, we will work towards its development and progress. Ports can be made since they have a long coastline. A new city will be developed just like Chandigarh and Gandhinagar and the Central Government will lend its full support to the new state," he added.

Earlier, the Congress Party cleared the formation of Telangana with Hyderabad as joint capital for 10 years.

"UPA has taken this decision that Hyderabad will be the capital of Telangana because it will take time to make a new capital. Till the time a new capital is not made, Hyderabad will be the capital for both states," Singh said.

The Congress Working Committee (CWC) and the UPA Coordination Committee cleared the formation of Telangana on Tuesday evening. They announced Hyderabad as the joint capital for ten years.

The Union Cabinet is likely to meet this week to take a final call on Telangana formation.
