Former union minister and Congress leader Salman Khurshid on Monday defended fellow party member Kapil Sibal, after the latter came under flak for represent the West Bengal Government in the Supreme Court in connection to the CBI probe into the Saradha chit fund scam, stating that lawyers cannot work for people only from a particular party.

"Lawyers and doctors take the case of anyone who comes to them with their issues. Be it Kapil Sibal or me, those who practice law can't place a board which says we'll only work for people from a particular party. It is a doctor and lawyer's duty to work for people who seek help. We might be hesitant in some cases, but imposing allegations is not fair," said Khurshid.

Meanwhile, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Tariq Anwar praised Sibal's skills as an advocate.

"Kapil Sibal is a renowned advocate; if someone hires his services then no one should have a problem with it. There is absolutely no political angle to it," said Anwar.

Sibal will be representing the West Bengal state government in the Supreme Court in connection to the CBI probe into the Saradha chit fund scam.

The state government and the Trinamool Congress (TMC) filed separate petitions in the apex court on Monday, requesting the court to monitor the probe into the scam.
