Eight policemen, including a deputy commissioner of police (DCP) was injured on Friday after the Goddess Durga idol immersion procession in east Delhi turned violent. A police gypsy was also damaged in the incident.
The injured have been rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The DCP (East) along with Assistant Commissioner of Police and Station Head Officer (SHO) of Mayur Vihar was on duty at Yamuna Ghat to keep a check on the arrangements for the immersion of Goddess Durga's idol.
The incident took place when a group of people from South-East Sriniwaspuri district tried to exit from the entry side after the immersion procession, resulting in blockade of traffic. When the staff tried to stop them, the people turned violent.
The police have detained 11 people in connection with the incident.
