Delhi Jal Board announces strong measures for improving drainage system

The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has proposed strong measures to bring about improvements and to introduce more efficiency in the maintenance of its drainage system.

According to a DJB release, keeping in mind its mandate to provide better water and wastewater services to the residents of Delhi, the DJB has issued instructions to work-out a schedule for prevention, maintenance of the sewer lines, including the deployment of the recycler for desilting.

The information regarding the deployment of the recycler and Suction-cum-Jetting Machines shall be made available to resident welfare associations, and shall also be uploaded on the DJB website.

This will help in better planning and management of the available resources, and will also bring about more transparency in the system.

The DJB shall also prepare and upload on its website the action plan for deployment of suction-cum-jetting machines for the vulnerable areas, with a view to pre-empt any blockages in the drainage system.

In order to ensure optimum utilization of the available resources and also for better monitoring of the works being carried-out, DJB shall require the contracting agency to provide real-time pictures of the work being undertaken, alongwith the bills and log sheets.

The desilting of Peripheral Sewer Lines shall be streamlined to ensure maximum output proceeding from the confluence point of the Peripheral Sewer and Trunk Sewer moving forward to the tail-end.

This will be done to provide the maximum benefit of desilting work to the consumers by ensuring proper running of the drainage system.
