The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), as part of 'Swachchh Bharat Abhiyan' will be undertaking a special 'Clean and Green Delhi' drive from October 2 onwards to work towards cleanliness and a better environment of all its installations and nearby surroundings.
During this drive, the DMRC will involve its entire staff and stakeholders like Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), housekeeping agencies, parking contractors, facilitation staff, etc in working towards a clean and green Delhi.
From October 2, the drive will cover all 147 metro stations, eight train maintenance depots, seven DMRC colonies will be cleaned and plantation of approximately 1 500 fruit trees including saplings of Jamun, Imli, Amla, Bel and others will be undertaken along the Yamuna Bank and in different metro colonies.
Under the drive all 7895 Delhi Metro staff will be educated for sanitation and hygiene along with 3000 cleaning staff posted at different stations and depots.
Regular fogging will be done at all major interchange Metro stations, eight depots and seven Metro colonies.
Necessary action will be taken against anyone found defacing the Metro properties during this period and FIRs may be lodged as per legal provisions, if required.
DMRC will also conduct poster competitions amongst children of its colonies to make young people aware about the importance of cleanliness.
Awareness on waste management will be carried out as per DMRC's policy on Waste Management- removal and disposal of waste and non-use of plastic. In this regard, DMRC has already earmarked few locations and the drive is already underway to clean up these areas.
The DMRC 'Children's Home' at Tis Hazari and 'Old Age Shelter Home' at Govindpuri will also be spruced up before Deepawali.
Necessary provision of drinking water facility and installations will be made during the period. DMRC has provided the facility of drinking water at 16 stations and the work for others stations are in progress.
All interchange stations and the area surrounding these stations is being cleaned under this drive. For instance, the cleaning of the bus stand area near Kashmere Gate Metro station is already in progress.
Delhi Metro is laying 'special attention' on the cleaning and disinfection of toilets and 155 sets of public toilets and 67 sets of staff toilets situated at different Metro stations and locations are being cleaned vigorously.
