Animated film 'Despicable Me 2' beat competition from Johnny Depp starrer 'The Lone Ranger' and emerged as the top earner this weekend with 82.5 million dollar gross, according to studio estimates.
The Universal animated sequel earned 82.5 million dollars over the weekend and 142.1 million dollars across the five-day holiday window, Fox News reported.
Gore Verbinski's reimagination of the iconic lawman debuted with just 29.4 million dollars over the weekend, and just 48.9 million dollars since Wednesday.
