Actor-turned-politician Hema Malini on Friday won the Mathura Lok Sabha seat by a margin of 2,93,471 votes.
This is the second time the BJP candidate has retained her sway in the city of Hindi heartland.
Speaking to the media persons, the lawmaker said: "I knew I was going to win, but I did not fathom that I would win by this big margin. I would like to thank the people of Mathura and the nation."
On being asked about the loss of Congress in the states where they had a stronghold, she said: "It shows that they did not do any work."
Malini had contested against Narendra Singh of the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) and local industrialist Mahesh Pathak of Congress from Mathura.
In 2014, the "Dream Girl" had won by over 3 lakh votes in the constituency.
The Lok Sabha polls that commenced on April 11 and wrapped up on May 19, saw approximately 900 million voters exercising their franchise and deciding the fate of 7,928 candidates across 542 seats in the country. Out of those candidates, 724 were women and four were transgenders.
