Disproportionate Assets Case: Karnataka HC acquits Jayalalithaa and other accused

Former Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa was acquitted by the Karnataka High Court on Monday in connection with her role in a disproportionate assets (DA) case filed against her.

All the other accused in the case have also been acquitted. The acquittal of the accused was done on the basis of an appeal by the latter.

The court's judgment was greeted with cheers and celebrations outside the Poes Garden residence of the AIADMK chief in Chennai.

Earlier in the day, special prayers were held in Coimbatore ahead of pronouncement of the Karnataka High Court's verdict in connection with the case.

Jayalalitha was sentenced to serve four years in jail last year in connection with the Rs. 66.65 crore disproportionate assets case. The court had also imposed a hefty fine of Rs. 100 crores on her.
