Djokovic dethrones Murray to lift Madrid title

World number one Novak Djokovic has clinched the Madrid Masters title after defeating Andy Murray in a three-set thriller in Madrid.

With a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 win over Murray, the Serbian superstar lifted not only his fifth title of the year but also notched up a record 29th Masters title, Sport24 reported.

On the other hand, Murray will lose his world number two ranking to Roger Federer after failing to defend his title.

Djokovic has also improved his career head-to-head record against Murray to 23-9.
