Commenting on the need for transparency in donations to political parties after a dip was reported in fiscal 2015-16, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Wednesday said that donation taken by their party is on record and has been scrutinized by the Income Tax Department.

"The donation taken by the NCP is on record. We have submitted our books and account to the Income Tax Department. It is scrutinized by the income tax department and everything is transparent as far as NCP account is concerned," said NCP leader Nawab Malik.

Malik said that the other parties have to disclose their source of donation and expenditure.

"There are many parties who does not contest election and misuse the provision of the act. If any change is suggested we will welcome and support the change," he said.

Seven national parties showed a dip of about 84 per cent in the donation received to them in the fiscal 2015-16 as compared to last year, the information submitted to the Election Commission by the parties showed.

The seven national parties are the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, Trinamool Congress (TMC), Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), Communist Party of India (CPI), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
