DU urges UGC for quick implementation of proposed three years Honours course

Delhi University's (DU) media coordinator Malay Neerav told ANI today that the University has written a letter to University Grants Commission (UGC) this morning that if the proposal of rolling back the three years Honours course has to be implemented then it should be done soon so that the students don't suffer any more.

"DU feels that if the proposal is to be implemented then the required enquiry should be done soon so that students don't suffer further loss. And if the proposal is implemented then it will not take much time to start the admission process," said Neerav.

He also told ANI that so far no discussions have been held regarding the implementation of the proposal.

Earlier today, DU, which has been severely criticized for the delay in admissions, had proposed that the Honours courses in the university should be reverted back to the three year format while the B.Tech course can continue to be a four year one.

UGC Chairman Ved Prakash, who today met Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani, refused to take questions over the ongoing controversy.

Students, however, continue to suffer as admissions into the University continue to be at a halt for the third consecutive day.

The first cut-off list for admissions was supposed to come out on Tuesday but was deferred following the UGC's directive to the University to dispense with the Four Year Undergraduate Programme.
