The Election Commission (EC) has framed five specific charges against former Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan in an alleged 'paid news' case.

The EC asked complainants in the case to furnish all evidence in the form of affidavits to the poll panel by June 4.

It has also asked Chavan to produce evidence as rebuttal to evidence produced by the complainants by June 9.

Earlier, the EC, on the directions of the Supreme Court, had issued a notice to Chavan to appear before it in connection with the case of alleged expenses made by him during the 2009 polls which were categorised as "paid news".
