ED acting under Govt. pressure to threaten Opposition: Congress

Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad, on Wednesday alleged that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and various central agencies have been asked by the BJP-led government to probe the Congress and other opposition parties to threaten and scare them.

"We allege that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and various central agencies have been asked by the BJP government to probe the Congress, the TMC and other political parties to threaten and scare them," he said.

Azad also alleged that government had removed a former Enforcement Directorate(ED) chief, who had earlier closed the case, and reopened the case under a new ED head to settle scores with the opposition with the motive of vendetta.

Azad said there were cases of scams in the states of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, but the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) never got any cases registered against their CMs and ministers.

He appealed to the media to focus on the Opposition too as their side should not go unnoticed.

"The ruling party says that the opposition does not give sufficient time to discuss. If the House is not functioning, then the ruling party is responsible for this. We do not have any complaint against anybody other than the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government," he added.

"If the government behaves like this with the opposition party, then it is obvious that they will go to the temple of democracy to raise their voices," he said.

Meanwhile, the Rajya Sabha, which resumed after lunch, has been adjourned till tomorrow as the Congress members continued to protest against the government on the National Herald issue.

The House was adjourned four times in the pre-lunch session and once in the post-lunch session after it was finally called off till tomorrow.
