Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on Monday who visited the Elphinstone Road railway station said a tender has been given for the construction of an additional 12 metre foot over bridge here.
"We discussed the work-in-progress. We believe the foot over bridge will be ready before the scheduled time. Also, a tender has been given for the construction of an additional 12 metre foot over bridge. Therefore, locals will now be given two new options at the station," he told reporters here.
The railway minister earlier in the day visited Elphinstone Road railway station and reviewed the progress of the construction of the foot over bridge.
Goyal also travelled in the Mumbai Local Train from Elphinstone to Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus railway station, and reviewed the infrastructure and passengers' amenities at the station.
The footbridge at Elphinstone is being re-constructed after as many as 23 people were killed and over 39 injured in a rush-hour stampede at the railway station's foot over bridge on September 29.
