Iconic musician Elton John is finally letting the sun go down on his performing days after all.

The 70-year-old legend announced a three-year farewell tour and his subsequent retirement from touring during a press conference last night, reports Entertainment Weekly.

"I'm not going to be touring anymore. Apart from the last tour, which is going to start in September," John said in a New York City event where he was interviewed by Anderson Cooper.

Though, the 'Beautiful hit-maker did say that talking retirement from touring doesn't mean he would stop being creative.

He added, "I'm not going to be touring and traveling the world. My priorities have changed. I have young children. That doesn't mean I won't still be creative. But I won't travel any more. I don't want to go out with a whimper. I want to go out with a bang. It will be the most produced, fantastic show I've ever done."

The 300-date tour, spanning over the course of a several years, is called the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.

John also took the opportunity to quash rumors that he's in poor health.

"If you can do 300 shows, you're not in ill health. I will be creative hopefully up until the day I die," said 'Bennie and the Jets' hit-maker.

The announcement follows Sir Elton releasing his greatest hits compilation album Diamonds in November, which was put together to commemorate 50 years of Sir Elton's work with lyricist Bernie Taupin.

It should be noted that the five-time Grammy winner is slated to perform at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards show on Sunday.
