England and Wales Cricket Board has announced that the country's domestic cricket will witness a major change in the iconic coin toss tradition from next year to decide which team bats first.

In next season's domestic Championship, the away team will be given the option of bowling first, if they agree to it, toss will be considered unnecessary, Sport24 reports.

However, if the visiting team does not want to bowl first, a coin will be spun.

The proposal has been passed on the basis of a one-year trial.

Cricket committee head Peter Wright said that figures showing that spinners bowled only 21.5 percent of the overs in the 2015 Championship were presented to the committee and they have come to the conclusion that the only way to bring spin bowlers more into the game was to provide better pitches for them to bowl on.
