Ex-Oz player Martyn challenges England to aim for world domination

Former Australian batsman Damien Martyn has laid down the gauntlet to England, saying that they need to aim for world domination and win World Cups and Champions Trophies instead of just Test series or Ashes.

Martyn, who played 67 Tests for Australia, had been a part of the Australian XI which had won two World Cups, a Champions Trophy, and was a part in the longest Test winning run of 16 matches as well as going unbeaten in 24 out of 26 Test series.

Challenging England to win the afore-mentioned tournaments along with the planned World Test Championships as well as World Twenty20 tournaments, Martyn said that England needed to leave behind a legacy and dominate at the No.1 ranking in all three forms of cricket.

According to Martyn, England, along with South Africa, can aim as high as his Australian side did in the past and achieve world domination, adding that continuity was the job of Cricket Australia when he had left the game.

Stating that they he had his turn, along with other legends of his era to try their best and leave a legacy, Martyn further said that he was a part of a special team, which had Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath, adding that they were always pushed by Steve Waugh and Ricky Ponting.

Martyn further said that they had won in India and Sri Lanka, had tried to win Test matches within three days and had tried to break every possible record in every form and tournament of the game, adding that along with being the No.1 Test side, the Australian team he was a part of had wanted to conquer all and in all formats of the game.

Pointing out the similarities between the current England side and the Australian squad in which he played, Martyn also said that although England and South Africa are playing well now, their challenge is to be No.1 and then dominate world cricket and win World Cups.

Meanwhile, English cricketer James Taylor will play for Sussex after his own county Nottinghamshire agreed to let him push his case to be cover for Kevin Pietersen at Old Trafford, the report added.
