Ex-Pak chief selector Abdul Qadir slams PCB for not extending employees' contracts

Former Pakistani leg-spinner and chief selector Abdul Qadir has slammed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for not extending the contracts of 23 of its employees, including himself.

Qadir's job as spin bowling consultant at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) came to an end after the PCB relieved its 23 employees out of those 89 whose contracts had expired on October 31, a decision which was taken by Najam Sethi, whose own post is under threat.

According to the Daily Times, Qadir said that the PCB should have evaluated the performance of the employees before taking such decisions, adding that although the PCB has a right to relieve him if he failed to satisfy them with his performance, he, however, insisted that he had performed well.

Stating that other former cricketers like Azmat Rana and Ehteshamuddin were also sacked, Qadir lamented that unlike other countries' cricket boards, the PCB fails to take full advantage of the services of their former cricketers, adding that the board should sack those officials who know nothing about cricket.

Qadir further said that even the selectors were given one-month contracts by the PCB, adding that former PCB chairman Mohammad Zaka Ashraf had introduced the system of extending contracts every month, creating uncertainty among the employees.
