Experience does not matter to become PM: Digvijay Singh

Reacting to Nationalist Congress party (NCP) leader Praful Patel's statement that Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi was less experienced that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, Congress leader Digvijay Singh on Friday said that experience did not matter in the current situation, and that there was a difference between governing a state and governing a nation.

"I cannot comment on what the NCP is saying but there is a difference between governing a state, and governing a nation. If a person can govern a state very efficiently does not mean that he can do the same for a nation," said Singh

"If you talk about experienced leaders in the BJP, there are many who are more experienced than Modi. LK Advani is the best example," he said.

"But experience does not matter in the current situation. Barack Obama was a sedater for a month but, still he won the elections in a year," he added.

Earlier in the day, Patel had said that Rahul Gandhi was less experienced than Modi in context of becoming the prime ministerial candidate of the party.

He had also criticized the Congress for delaying clarity on the seat alliance talks with NCP in Maharashtra.

"The Congress has delayed the seat alliance talk in Maharashtra for too long, and we are awaiting clarity from the Congress. We have been saying it for months and the Congress spokespeople in Mumbai are giving contrary signals from that of Delhi's," he said.
